Hotel Berlin, Berlin - E-mobility at the heart of sustainable and customer-centric Pandox vision
Hotel Berlin, Berlin, a member of Radisson Individuals and part of the international Pandox Group, combines modern comfort with a strong focus on sustainability. As one of 162 hotels in the group, it has been offering an electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure since 2022 - made possible by Virta's end-to-end charging solution.
The story
Hotel Berlin, Berlin, founded in 1958 in West Berlin. was opened as a meeting place for the curious and the connected. True to this motto, the hotel remains a hub for the networkers and explorers to this day, connecting people in a dynamic environment.
In sync with the ever-changing city, the hotel has continuously evolved and is celebrated for its culture-focused projects, in-house event programs and distinctive Berlin identity.
As part of the Pandox Group - with 162 hotels in 12 European countries and a total of around 35,900 rooms - the hotel combines historical significance with modern comfort.
The creative design of the hotel not only reflects its eventful history, but also captures the typical Berlin zeitgeist. True to the motto "Stay like a local", guests experience Berlin from an authentic perspective.
Its central location in the heart of Berlin makes the hotel the ideal meeting place for travelers, professionals and locals alike.
The challenge
Hotel Berlin, Berlin has been awarded a certified eco-label and meets the standards of the Hotel Sustainability Basics. Active measures are taken to reduce the ecological footprint, support local communities and promote inclusion and equality within the team.
To further expand these efforts and promote the switch to zero-emission vehicles, the hotel decided to introduce EV charging stations to their premises in 2022.
"The decision to go electric was a logical step for us to reach our sustainability goals and offer our guests the best possible comfort. At a time when environmentally friendly solutions are becoming increasingly important, we see it as our responsibility to make a contribution and strengthen our competitiveness at the same time," says Dominique Vockeradt, Commercial Director at Hotel Berlin, Berlin.
In doing so, the charging infrastructure should not only benefit hotel guests, but should be made accessible to a wider audience:
"The EV charging possibilities also extend to our employees who are using zero-emission vehicles for work related travel whenever possible. The charging infrastructure in the hotel's own parking lot should provide guests, employees and the public with an efficient charging option."
The charging stations should run in the background, independently of the hotel's operations, without any additional effort required from the hotel's staff.
The solution
After considering various solutions for the implementation of charging infrastructure, Hotel Berlin, Berlin opted for Virta's end-to-end approach.
Dominique Vockeradt comments:
"We appreciate the flexibility and adaptability of Virta's solutions, as well as the reliable support they provide. These factors make Virta a valuable partner for our e-mobility strategy."
Virta offers turnkey solutions that are perfectly tailored to the requirements of hotels. From the procurement, installation and commissioning of the charging stations to ongoing operation and billing, the Virta solution covers all relevant areas.
As part of the "Connected to Virta Network", the hotel's public charge points are visible and accessible to thousands of drivers via the Virta app and numerous roaming partners.
The charging infrastructure offers guests the opportunity to conveniently charge their vehicles during their stay. At the same time, the public charging stations in the heart of Berlin have become a popular place to come and charge.
And employees also benefit. They use the charging stations at their workplace at discounted rates, which motivates many to switch to battery-powered vehicles. The hotel is sending a strong signal for sustainable change.
"The introduction of the e-mobility solution has proven to be extremely successful. Both our employees and our guests make great use of the charging infrastructure. We're really pleased to see that more and more guests are embracing electric mobility and using the chargers for both private and business trips. This development shows that we are on the right track and are achieving our sustainability goals," explains Dominique Vockeradt.
The future
Hotel Berlin, Berlin continues to focus on innovation and sustainability. E-mobility remains a central component of their strategy, both to reduce the ecological footprint and to set new standards for environmentally conscious travel.
With the successful implementation of the charging infrastructure in cooperation with Virta, Hotel Berlin, Berlin shows how sustainability and guest comfort can go hand in hand - a good example for the hotel industry.
Felix Rathke, Sales Lead DACH/CEE: "Together with Hotel Berlin, Berlin, we are pleased to be driving the necessary expansion of charging infrastructure in public spaces in the center of Berlin and to be part of the implementation of the international Pandox Group's own sustainability strategy."
